SECONDARY
Secondary School Curriculum: Excellence Through Choice and Specialization
Motto: High Moral Standards and Academic Excellence
The Secondary School at Ladybird Group of Schools (Form 1 to Form 5) is dedicated to providing a rigorous academic environment that prepares students for the GCE Ordinary Level examinations and future leadership. Our curriculum is structured to ensure that students develop a broad base of knowledge before specializing in their areas of strength.
Lower Secondary: The Foundational Years (Form 1 to Form 3)
In the first three years of secondary school, we implement a Mixed Curriculum. We believe this is essential for developing well-rounded students who understand the connections between different fields of study.
During this stage, all students study a balanced combination of:
The Sciences: Integrated Science, Biology, and Physics.
The Arts: Literature in English, History, and Citizenship.
Social Sciences: Geography, Economics, and Environment.
Languages: Continued mastery of English and French.
This broad approach allows students to discover their passions and academic strengths before they make critical choices for their examination years.
Upper Secondary: The Path to Specialization (Form 4 to Form 5)
As students enter Form 4, they begin their focused preparation for the GCE Ordinary Level. At this stage, students are guided to choose a specific academic pathway based on their career aspirations.
The Core Foundation (Compulsory for All)
Regardless of their chosen path, all students must maintain excellence in three core subjects which are mandatory:
English Language
French
Mathematics
Academic Pathways
Students choose between two primary streams:
The Science Stream: Focuses on Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Additional Mathematics. Students in this stream also have the flexibility to choose Social Science subjects (such as Economics or Geography) to broaden their academic profile.
The Arts Stream: Focuses on Literature, History, and Religious Studies, alongside other Social Science options.
Subject Loading
To ensure academic excellence without compromising depth of understanding, students in Form 4 and Form 5 can choose a maximum of 11 subjects in total. This allows our learners to specialize while maintaining a competitive and diverse portfolio for their future GCE examinations.
Character and Academic Integrity
In keeping with our motto of High Moral Standards, our secondary curriculum goes beyond academics. We emphasize academic integrity, the importance of hard work, and the development of ethical leadership. We prepare our students not just to pass exams, but to be principled citizens of Cameroon and the world.
Through our rigorous curriculum and dedicated teaching staff, we ensure that every student leaving Form 5 is equipped with the knowledge and character required to thrive in High School and beyond.
